One of the best things you can do for your business is perform your duties well and keep your clients happy. I know that sounds simplistic and it’s likely that you might disregard it, but give me a minute to explain.

Recently one of my clients started a new venture with another business. There were a lot of promises made and he figured if even a small part of the promises were attained, he was happy to pay the required costs. Unfortunately since then, not many of the promises have been delivered. There have been a lot more ‘explanation’ calls than delivery calls. One of the things that has bothered me most about this is that each time there’s a problem, this company launches into all of the reasons why they’re so good at what they do. We get a list of ‘what you’ll get when you work with us’ but we haven’t yet gotten any of these results.

I told my client that I would feel so much better about this company if they would stop telling us why we should hire them (even after we
have) and start showing us why we did. In other words, stop telling us – start showing us! This company wastes a vast majority of time telling us how good they are and not enough time fixing the problems and showing us excellent performance and service.

When it comes to your business, a large portion of income is likely repeat sales/customers or referred clients. The very best marketing you
can do for your company is exceptional performance for happy clients. In my experience, happy clients don’t mind sharing your good work with others and bringing you more business. It makes everyone content all the way around. It’s just good business.

If you find yourself constantly trying to sell your business, see if there are ways you can show potential clients what you can offer them. SHOW them what you can do. Refer them to your other happy customers and give them concrete evidence of your services.

There are enough salesmen out there in the world hitting all of us up every day. Shine with the work you do and your marketing will all fall in line much easier!
